Conclusion of Halloween Work
Description
Since Halloween I have created three prototype models for my project, I first drew the layout and then made a model in sketch up. I created a sports complex as idea one as it would be good for Derry to add to its sporting facilities and would also be a plus for the 2012 Olympic games. My second idea was a bar/restaurant/nightclub, the reason I chose this as it would be great to have a waterfront bar and restaurant and it would be hugely successful. My third idea was then a stadium for local teams; this would replace the Brandywell and Celtic Park which are both in much need for work which is why I think it would be great to add a new state of the art stadium.
Evaluation
The sports complex would I completed was done to a high standard but is easily expandable and more work is needed on the indoor facilities as I only developed the structure of the building and also the outdoor grounds and be developed with more detail.
The bar/restaurant/nightclub was completed as a rough idea to what I would like to see, there is not much detail added at the minute but can be easily expanded, I would also like to keep it very modern.
The third idea which is the stadium was developed quite basic only including the pitch and a rough idea of what way the seats could be placed and no real designs of the stadium and come in yet so a lot more work would be needed in this include changing rooms etc.
Time Management until Christmas
I will chose the sports complex as my idea and will work on developing the grounds and building structures, I will use class and study time effectively to achieve this, then after Christmas I will look into the indoor facilities.

Time Management until Christmas
I will chose the sports complex as my idea and will work on developing the grounds and building structures, I will use class and study time effectively to achieve this, then after Christmas I will look into the indoor facilities.
Idea 1 – Sports Complex
My first idea fulfils the coursework brief as it would be very ideal for Derry due to the 2012 Olympics coming to the UK, teams could stay in Derry to train and get use to the conditions but at the minute there is not much places to train. There would also be plenty of time until it would be needed. Even without the Olympics taking place this would be very useful for Derry as at the minute there is only one sports complex. My final idea would include indoor facilities like football and swimming and also outdoor facilities like running track and rugby and football pitches. Besides this there could also be a gym and conference rooms for meetings. This is environmentally sustainable as fees for using the facilities would pay keep for the upkeep, and also include resources such as solar panels or water reservoir tanks to reduce the cost of running the centre. The centre would be very good for the public as it would be based near the centre of Derry on one of the main roads, which also includes good bus services citywide. Looking more into the Olympics there is also nearby hotels like Da Vinci’s just one minutes walk away.
Idea 2 – Bar/Restaurant/Nightclub
My second idea would be a great plus for the residents of Derry as it is much need. There are really no waterfront hotels of bars looking on to the Foyle and would be a great concept. Also at the minute there is not much of a great selection of night life at the minute so this would be great for the younger age group on a night out and would not need to step into town. Included in this would be a modern bar and restaurant including a nightclub. The bar and restaurant could be looking onto the riverfront and the nightclub could be broke up into sections just like Kelly’s in Portrush which is very popular over all of Northern Ireland. This is environmentally sustainable as profit from the services would pay keep for the upkeep, and also include resources such as solar panels or water reservoir tanks to reduce the cost of running the bar etc.. The only downside to this would be the rivalry of Da Vinci’s which also includes a Hotel.
Idea 3 – Stadium
My third idea is very much needed in Derry as local sports team Derry City FC current stadium is below par. This is why it would be good to invest in a brand new state of the art stadium. I think it would be a very good idea to add a stadium that could host games to all Derry local teams which would include a ground share for Derry City Football Club, City of Derry Rugby Club and Doire Gaelic Club. This way it would be used much and income from tickets would pay for the upkeep of the stadium and pay of the expenses used to build the stadium, and also include resources such as solar panels or water reservoir tanks to reduce the cost of running the stadium. This would also be great for away supporters as it is located in a suitable area beside one of the mains roads and public transport services are accessible.
